Educated at Westminster School (where he was partly a contemporary of Harrod) and Christ Church, Warburg (1898-1981) joined George Routledge & Sons Ltd as an apprentice in 1922, becoming joint managing director in 1931. He resigned in 1935 to buy a publishing firm, Martin Secker & Warburg (1936), with himself as chairperson. He joined Heinemann Group of Publishers, 1951, of which he was later elected director (1961-71).
