Radcliffe (1899-1977, created Viscount Radcliffe in 1962) was educated at Haileybury and New College, Oxford (where he was a contemporary of Harrod), and at the Inner Temple (1924). He was a fellow of All Souls (1922-37), but also practised at the Bar, where he had a quick career.
