Paddy Monkhouse (born 1904) was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Oxford. He joined the staff of the Manchester Guardian in 1927, as a reporter (1927-30), leader-writer (1930-32) and news editor (1932); later he became deputy editor and trustee. In 1936 he went to the Evening Standard, and then returned to the Manchester Guardian after the war.
