Educated at Hayleybury and Trinity College, Cambridge, Jones (1880-1963, knighted 1946) was a member or secretary of several boards, committees and delegations, including Lord Curzon's Shipping Control Committee, the Peace Conference in Paris (1919), the Technical Personnel Committee (1941-50), the Radio Board (1942-45) and the Interdepartmental Committee on Further Education and Training (1943). He was associated with the Royal Institute of International Affairs, of which he was chairperson of council (1948-53).
