This is first-class stuff and exceptionally interesting. [1] I think you are on a very fruitful line of analysis. I have now read it carefully, and I send you my first comments for what they are worth. Most of them are comparatively minor points, but one of them, that which arises on page 15, [2] with its consequences to what follows, is of considerable importance. Either I have misunderstood you or the argument needs amendment. I am, therefore, returning you the article along with these comments, so that you can consider them before I send it to the printer.
