41R. Harrod to J. D. Woodruff, 4 November 1922 [a]
Follows on from
39 R. "I have to read a
paper to the Economics Club here. I will have to be decent. I shant
be able to write it at once, partly because I cant think what to
write it on." [1]
]"I
am not helping any Liberal.
[2] I am rather secluded here, and have excuses for not
doing anything. It would be silly to undertake some job [...]
just to save my conscience for going to Ipswich (my labor friend is
there having a straight fight with a conservative)."

2. A general election was called early in November after the Parliament was dissolved on 26 October 1922. As a freshman, Harrod canvassed for John Simon in the Spen Valley by election in 1919 (see letters 4 R, 5 R and 6 R). Later he was three times the election agent for Gilbert Murray: see note 1 to letter 161 R.
3. E. J. C. Neep: see letter 38 R.
