Murray is pleased
that the Committee recommended Harrod's appointment to the
House. [1]
- 1. Harrod was
officially elected as lecturer in modern history and economics at
Christ Church on 28 July, and was granted leave till Easter 1923
for the purpose of study outside Oxford (see note
2 to letter 30 R),
at a salary of £300 during his absence and £400 on
taking up work at the College (J. G. C. Anderson to Harrod, 28
July 1922, in HPBL Add. 72763/30). Negotiations on Christ Church's
offer of a Studentship were taken with Robert Dundas (then senior
censor) and Keith Feiling (Dundas to Harrod, 9 July 1922, in HPBL
Add. 72728/164). Both Dundas and Feiling seem to have `supervised'
the organization of Harrod's first lectures: see letters
49 R, 50 R,
52 R,
54 R and 59 R;
other letters by Feiling and Dundas concerning Harrod's teaching
are extant (in files HPBL Add. 71611 and 72728, and a
letter from Feiling of 8 September 1923 , in
KHLM 170
).
Harrod was eventually confirmed as lecturer in July 1923 (Feiling
to Harrod, 3 July 1923, in HPBL Add. 71611/23-24), and officially
elected as a Student on 7 May 1924 (H. J. White to Harrod, 7 May
1924, in HPBL Add. 72763/79-80).
