108R. F. B. Bourdillon to Harrod, 9 April 1926 [a]

Bourdillon sends the list of invitations to a meeting of the Economic Group of the British Institute of International Affairs, at which Sir Hugo Hirst, chairman and managing director of the General Electric Company Ltd., will open a discussion on international cartels and industrial combinations. In preparation of this discussion a memorandum by Harrod on the subject is attached. [1]

  1. 1. Harrod's memorandum does not seem to have survived. This was the first of the meetings with experts on cartels organized by Harrod on behalf of the Economic Group of the Royal (formerly British) Institute of Economic Affairs, following the suggestion formulated by Harrod himself in a former memorandum (see note 1 to letter 92 R). A few days later, Bourdillon communicated the arrangements he had taken for the second of the planned speeches by experts, to be delivered by Julius Hirsch (on the meetings see note 1 to letter 124 R). Bourdillon also revealed that Harrod's memorandum was warmly spoken of by Salter and Butler (20 April 1926, in HPBL Add. 72763/136).
