Waley, Sigmund David

Waley (born Schloss, 1887-1962, knighted 1943) was educated at Rugby and Balliol College, Oxford. He entered the Treasury in 1910 and became assistant secretary in 1924, principal assistant secretary in 1931, third secretary in 1946-47 and then joined the European Recovery Department of the Foreign Office (1948).
