Viner, Jacob

Viner (1892-1970), economic theorist and historian of economic thought, was educated at McGill and Harvard, where he was a student of Taussig . He taught at Chicago (1916-17 and 1919-46), becoming full professor at 32, and ended his career at Princeton (1946-60). He was co-editor of the Journal of Political Economy (1929-46), mostly jointly with Knight . Harrod met Viner in Oxford in 1931, and reviewed Viner's Gold and Monetary Stabilisation and Studies in the Theory of International Trade (Harrod 1933:2 and 1938:8 ).
