Edward (Louis) Spears (1886-1974, 1st baronet created 1953) was educated privately, and soon joined the army. He retired in 1920, with the rank of major-general. He was a Member of Parliament for the National Liberal Party (1922-24) and for the Unionist Party (1931-45).
