Educated at Winchester and New College, Oxford, Sparrow (1906-92) was fellow of All Souls College (1929; re-elected 1937, 1946) but, having been called to the Bar (Middle Temple, 1931) practised in Chancery Division (1931-39 and 1946-51) and was honorary bencher, Middle Temple (1952). He was appointed warden of All Souls College (1952-77). He was also fellow of Winchester College (1951-81) and honorary fellow of New College (1956).
According to Sparrow's biographer, Harrod--whom he met via Maurice Bowra when Sparrow was an undergraduate--was a friend and major influence upon Sparrow's later life. Numerous letters are preserved among Harrod's papers.
