Educated at Auckland Grammar School, Auckland University College, New Zealand, and Merton College, Oxford, Sisam (1887-1971) began his career at the Ministry of Food (1917-22). He joined the Oxford University Press in 1923, and was secretary to the delegates from 1942 to 1948. In 1930-31 he represented the Press as the secretary of the Bodleian Library Commission, of which Harrod was a member. He was fellow (1942-48) and honorary fellow (from 1964) of Merton College.
