"Dadie" Rylands (1902-99) was educated at Eton and King's College, Cambridge. He was fellow of King's College from 1927, and a bursar (1939-47). He taught English literature at Cambridge University as lecturer (1935-62), was college lecturer (1946-58) and director of studies in English (1947-59).
