Nicolson, Harold George

Harold George Nicolson (1886-1968, knighted 1953) was educated at Wellington College and Balliol College, Oxford. He entered the diplomatic service (1909-29), served on the British delegation to the Paris peace conference and attended the Lausanne conference (1922-23). He was a journalist for a while (1930-31), then entered politics, getting into Parliament for the National Labour Party (1935-45). He regularly contributed to the Spectator (1939-52), the Daily Telegraph and the Observer (1949-63), wrote six literary biographies, other biographies, and numerous novels and essays.
