Herbert, Jesse Basil

Basil Herbert (1899-1972) was educated at Westminster School, where he was a contemporary of Harrod, and at Christ Church. At Oxford he was one of the re-founders of the university's Liberal Club (in 1922 he married Isabella Russell Rea, the sister of Philip Rea , the other founder of the Oxford University Liberal Club). He was private secretary to Asquith (1923-25). Called to the Bar in 1924, he became the master of the bench of the Inner Temple in 1957. He was judge of the County Courts, Circuit 44, Westminster (1959-71).
