Dingle Foot (1905-78, knighted 1964) was educated at Balliol College, Oxford. He was president of the Oxford Liberal Club (1927) and the Oxford Union Society (1928), and a Liberal Member of Parliament (1931-45). He was called to the Bar at Grey's Inn in 1930, and became a bencher in 1952. He joined the Labour Party in 1956, was a Member of Parliament again (1957-70, and Registrar-General (1964-67).
