Chapman, Robert William

Chapman (1881-1960) undertook studies in classics at the University of St Andrews and Oriel College, Oxford. He was member of the Council of the Oxford Bibliographical Society, and secretary to the delegates of the Oxford University Press (1920-42); he was fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford (1931-47), and lecturer at Trinity College, Cambridge (1948) and Yale University (1950). He was a member of the editorial team of the Oxford English Dictionary, and authored several treatises on linguistics and kindred subjects.
