927R. Harrod to Wilhelmine Harrod, 30 August 1939 [a]

On his way to the British Association, [1] Harrod reports that he must "prepare some remarks on the population". [2]

  1. 1. This is inferred from Billa's letter to Harrod of 31 August (in HPBL Add. 72778/18-19). The 1939 meeting was held in Dundee; it was scheduled for 31 August-6 September, but part of it was cancelled at the outbreak of the war. Harrod is not scheduled among the speakers nor among the participants to the discussions (the list, however, is incomplete: BAAS/337), but he is listed among the members who have intimated intention to attend (BAAS/277).

    2. The "remarks on the population" were not intended for the British Association meeting, as no papers were scheduled on the subject (the abstracts of the communications, including those which were cancelled--see note 1 to this letter--are printed in The Advancement of Science, vol. 1, April 1940, pp. 394-99).
