850R. Archibald Sinclair to Harrod, 6 October 1938 [a]

Replies to 845 and to a telegram not found dated 4 October, answered by 851 . Sinclair informs Harrod that the general election is off, he reports the reason advocated by the Prime Minister--who was trying to obtain National unity--and adds two further reasons himself. As for an electoral pact against truckling to a dictatorship, Sinclair favours co-operation with people both on the right and on the left, but he is afraid he finds slightly better response on the right.
