With reference to
the proposed collective letter to The Times, Cole objects to reduced
taxation. [1]

5 ). Cole wrote again on 3 March explaining that in spite of
agreeing with the main argument he did not feel like signing the
collective letter to The Times unless the words "and enable the
Chancellor to reduce taxation" were eliminated (in HP
IV-1270-1303/5). The letter was not modified on this point (press
item 5 ,
