The data mining laboratory of the University of Pavia was established in 2001. Since its foundation, it develops scientific research in the field of statistics. It does so  both at the applied and at the methodological level. The methodological research is finalised at the development of  statistical and/or computational tools useful for real applications; the applied research is aimed at the resolution of real problems,  with a coherent and rigouros scientific approach.

The mission of the laboratory is thus twofold:  to develop novel statistical methodologies, that will eventually be applied; and to solve current and timely problems, with scientific solutions that eventually will become a piece of research.
